Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about Leeds Credit Union's products and services.

What is a credit union?

A credit union is a member-owned financial co-operative. Unlike banks, credit unions are not-for-profit — any surplus is used to benefit members through better rates and services.

Who can join Leeds Credit Union?

Anyone who lives or works in Leeds, Wakefield, Harrogate, Craven, or Barking & Dagenham can join. Staff of our payroll and housing association partners can also become members.

Are my savings safe?

Yes. Your savings are protected up to £85,000 by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS), the same protection offered by banks and building societies.

How much can I borrow?

You can borrow between £250 and £25,000. The amount you can borrow depends on your personal circumstances and affordability assessment.

What is the interest rate on loans?

Our representative APR is 12.68%. There are no hidden fees, no arrangement charges, and no early repayment penalties.

How do I apply for a loan?

You can apply online through our website, by visiting one of our branches, or by calling us. You'll need to be a member to apply — but you can join and apply at the same time.

Can I access my account online?

Yes. Our online banking service lets you check your balance, view transactions, and manage your account 24/7. We also have a mobile app available on iOS and Android.
